A community program exploring how low-income households can become more sustainable will be a highlight of Australia’s latest Solar Cities project. In a media release, Australian Government Environment Minister Peter Garrett has announced $4.9 million in Australian Government funding for the Coburg Solar City, the 6th in the Solar Cities program. “I am particularly pleased that a key feature of the Coburg Solar City will be the development of an ‘Energy Hub’, a community enterprise providing energy retrofit services for low income and public housing tenants,” Mr Garrett said.

SEQ Healthy Waterways Strategy 2007 – 2012
An integrated set of Action Plans, the SEQ Healthy Waterways Strategy 2007 – 2012 is designed to maintain and improve the health of the waterways and catchments of South East Queensland. The Strategy aims to improve the health of our waterways by:
- achieving significant reductions in both urban and non-urban diffuse source pollution—diffuse source pollution comes from a variety of sources such as sediment from catchments
- achieving significant decreases in point source pollution—point source pollution originates from a single point such as waste water treatment plants
- protecting and conserving high ecological value waterways
- improving catchment health
- combating coastal algal blooms
- increasing the commitment and capacity of the general community
- improving management via better modelling and evaluation
- refining the Ecosystem Health Monitoring Program
Learning for Sustainability website
Efforts towards sustainability in any field are built on processes for communicating, learning, and sharing knowledge, engaging people in their multiple roles as individuals, and as members of communities and organizations. The Learning for Sustainability website portal (formerly NRM-changelinks) is designed for those wanting to improve such collaborative initiatives. The site highlights the wide range of networks, forums, processes and social skills needed to support constructive collaboration. The site structure shows how these elements can work together, and collectively brings links to several hundred annotated on-line resources together in one easy to access site.
